The University of Tulsa volleyball team (21-8, 13-5 The American) swept the Connecticut Huskies (10-19, 3-15 The American), 25-23, 26-24, 25-23, as the Hurricane concluded its home schedule for the 2014 season, Sunday afternoon at the Donald W. Reynolds Center.

Prior to the match, seniors Carly Boatwright, Bailey Clampitt, and Valerie El Houssine were recognized as part of senior day.

“It was great to send our seniors out with a 3-0 win today,” said coach Ryan Wills. “They have been very crucial in building the culture we want at Tulsa. They are great people who deserved to have a great senior day.”

Erica Bohannon led all players with 15 kills, while hitting .419. Nicole Newton finished the day with eight kills on 10 attacks, while Ashley Hooper and El Houssine each tallied nine kills to help lead Tulsa to the season sweep over the Huskies.

UConn's Devon Maugle led the Huskies offensively, recording 12 kills on 31 attacks.

The Golden Hurricane concluded its 2014 home schedule with a 10-2 record, winning its last eight matches played at the Reynolds Center.

Tulsa looked like a team on a mission early on, jumping out to a comfortable 11-4 lead. After a Husky timeout, the Hurricane pulled away to take the opening frame in convincing fashion.

TU hit .393 in the set, while holding UConn to .037.

The second set was much closer, despite the Hurricane jumping out to a 5-1 lead. UConn battled back to take its first lead of the match, at 12-10, forcing TU to use its first timeout of the match.

Following the timeout, the Huskies held on to its lead and saw itself with three match points, up 24-21. However, the Hurricane rallied off five-straight points, to take the second set to go up 2-0 at halftime.

Bohannon and Hooper combined for 10 kills in the set.

The final set was back-and-forth, as the two sides exchanged the lead five times, while being deadlocked on 13 occasions.

Tulsa drew first blood, forcing an UConn timeout, up 10-6. The Huskies did a good job fighting back to take the lead, at 17-15. However, the Hurricane battled back to take the lead then the set, earning the sweep over the Huskies for the second time this season.

The Hurricane will conclude its regular season on the road, against SMU on Wednesday, followed by a showdown with East Carolina on Friday.
