Green Country firefighters are responding to several grass fires Saturday afternoon, whipped up by gusty southwest winds.

The outside lane of westbound Turner Turnpike was shut down in Creek County due to a large grass fire. That's between the Kellyville and Sapulpa exits.

It has since been reopened.

Mayes County firefighters had to shut down part of Highway 412 for a short time, also due to a grass fire.

Warm temperatures in the 60s and 70s and southwesterly winds gusting up to 35 mph are forecast Saturday through Sunday afternoon, causing any fires that start to spread rapidly, but no burn bans had been issued as of Saturday afternoon.

The fire danger also extends into western Texas and the Texas Panhandle and into parts of southeastern Kansas and southwestern Missouri.
