Police have released surveillance video of a terrifying south Tulsa purse snatching, where bystanders rushed to capture a thief.

It happened Sunday at noon outside the Warehouse Market near 61st and Peoria.

Tulsa Police say Timothy Towe, 57, grabbed a woman's purse off her shoulder, pushed her to the ground and threatened to kill her if she followed him.  When the victim started screaming, other shoppers pounced on him, and held him until police officers got there.

A police report says Towe told officers he took the money because he was broke and needed drugs.

The victim was treated for a fractured right wrist, contusion on her head and a possible broken tailbone.
