A mother and her two sons were shot in their Wisconsin home on Friday.

One son and the mother survived -- the youngest son did not.

Police in Montefort, Wisconsin are still investigating the possibility of a homicide but have not ruled out a possible murder-attempted suicide.

The boys' father, Tyler Slaight, does not live in the home in Wisconsin with the mother and the two boys but does live nearby.

Less than one year ago, church members in Tulsa gave the family keys to a brand new home and a new chance at life. The family has seen its fair share of heartbreak, and those at the church that helped them say they were thankful for the second chance.

The family moved to Wisconsin since that Tulsa home was given to them.

Now police are trying to determine who shot the two boys and their mother or if the mother may have pulled the trigger.

It's a tragic end to a once hopeful beginning.

“You know, the day they moved [to the Tulsa home] …they looked like their lives had forever been changed, and really they were happy and excited and just a lot of hope,” minister Randy Wilson said.

Jaxon Slaight, 6, is now dead. His brother, 8-year-old Joseph, and mother Morgan, are hospitalized after a shooting in their Wisconsin home Friday afternoon.

The mother and her two kids moved there several months ago to be closer to family.

Wilson, who pastors the Bethany Free Will Baptist church in Broken Arrow said the congregation is still in shock.

“We knew this family personally, and so it was just really hard to believe,” he said. “We're just heartbroken by it."

The church helped renovate the home donated to the Slaight family.

Parents Morgan and Tyler had been longtime meth addicts and were trying to get their lives back on track.

The two boys had just been reunited with their parents after being taken away and put into foster care.

"You go through the kind of life that we went through and you don't expect anything like this,” Morgan Slaight told News On 6 when she received keys to her new Tulsa home in April.

Authorities in Wisconsin still are trying to piece together what happened on Friday.
