A Chickasha family was devastated by the loss of their loved one this weekend, only to have the tragedy multiplied by a criminal.

The woman was so shook up she doesn't want to show her face. She said she has been with her husband at Baptist Medical Center in Oklahoma City since Monday. He had been fighting stomach cancer for the last several months. And around 3 a.m. Saturday, she said he passed away with his family by his side.

“It was very peaceful. He just went to sleep. So he just was tired, tired of fighting,” she told News 9.

Gutted with grief, she took their children back home to Chickasha the morning after he died, only to have her heart shattered all over again. She arrived to find a mess and the back door was wide open. She said someone ransacked the home and stole seven guns, diamond earrings and other treasured family jewels.

“My daughter is not even going to remember her dad and I just don't know why somebody would want to take advantage of that situation. I don't understand it,” she said.

Like salt in a wound, she said the superficial losses hurt. But she said she's putting her trust in police to find the person who did this, so she can focus on coping with the loss that can never be replaced.

The woman told News 9 she had family and friends checking on the home while she was away, and believes this had to have happened sometime after 4 p.m. on Friday. If you have any information, call Chickasha Police Department.

If you would like to help the woman and her 7-month-old baby and 8-year-old child, contact News 9's Christy Lewis on Facebook or by email at Christy.Lewis@News9.net.
