Slick Start To Oklahoma Morning Followed By Slow Warming Trend

A winter weather advisory continues for all of eastern Oklahoma until midnight, but a slow warming trend may not be far behind.

A winter storm dumped sleet and snow across the region Wednesday morning and in some areas, snow continued to fall late into the evening.

Forecasts showed the Tulsa area could receive about an inch of snow, while areas south and east of Tulsa and along the Oklahoma/Kansas state line could have received higher totals.

The snow started winding down late Wednesday night, but because temperatures aren't expected to get above freezing Thursday morning, roads may be slick for morning drivers.

Because snow continued to fall late into Wednesday evening, News On 6 meteorologist Dick Faurot said official totals wouldn't be available until Thursday, possibly Friday.

While snow fell in several Green County areas Wednesday, Faurot said the pattern is about to change.

“The next two weeks will be much milder and much more settled with little or no chance of any precipitation at all, let alone any wintry precipitation. The bitter cold, windy conditions of today will be gradually moderating, but it will take a couple of days so hang in there,” Faurot said.

He said Thursday will start in the teens and slowly make its way to the 30s, but we'll have a glimpse of sunshine and that could be the start of a warming trend.

“Look for improving conditions with mostly sunny skies through the weekend and well into the following week,” Faurot said. “Southerly winds will also return and temperatures will gradually rebound.”

Faurot said, while we have had some significant winter weather in March in past years, he said Wednesday's storm looks to be the last winter weather event for a while.
