Oklahoma head men's basketball coach Lon Kruger announced Wednesday that sophomore guard Frank Booker has decided to transfer.

Booker played in 64 games during his two seasons as a Sooner, averaging 5.1 points, 1.5 rebounds and 0.5 assists in 14.2 minutes an outing. He made 78 3-pointers and shot 33.5 percent from behind the arc.

"I had a great experience here," said Booker. "I appreciate Coach Kruger giving me the opportunity to come play basketball at OU. I've grown a lot since I've been here. It was a hard decision, but it simply came down to the opportunity to return closer to home and to get more playing time."

From Augusta, Ga., the 6-4, 193-pound Booker averaged 5.0 points, 1.4 rebounds and 0.6 assists in 14.3 minutes a game this past season in helping the Sooners to a 24-11 record and a 12-6 Big 12 mark. OU tied for second place in the league and advanced to the NCAA Tournament Sweet 16 for the first time since 2009. He shot 30.3 percent from 3-point range and 82.4 percent from the free throw line.

Over the season's final 12 games, Booker averaged 6.8 points and shot 35.7 percent from 3-point range (20 makes). He scored a career-high 17 points in a Feb. 21 win at Texas Tech (4 for 8 from long distance), 14 points in a Feb. 9 win over Iowa State (4 for 6 from deep) and 12 points in the Sooners' NCAA third-round game against Dayton (4 for 6 from behind the arc).

"We understand Frank's wishes and are totally supportive of him," said Kruger. "He had a very good first two years and we expect him to finish well at whatever school he chooses."
