Tulsa County Sheriff Stanley Glanz held a news conference Monday morning to discuss the fatal shooting of Eric Harris by a reserve deputy.

Glanz said the FBI has reviewed the incident and found no wrongdoing, which he said includes no civil rights violations.

The sheriff said his office's reserve deputy program meets national standards set by the Commission on Accreditation For Law Enforcement Agencies.

The controversy began when Reserve Deputy Bob Bates, 73, shot and killed Eric Harris during an undercover gun buy on April 2, 2015 outside the Dollar General in the 2000 block of North Harvard.

Bates and the office have said the shooting was accidental.

Glanz addressed the Harris family, saying "We are sorry Eric was taken from you."

The sheriff's office turned the case over to the Tulsa County District Attorney Steve Kunzweiler, who filed a charge of 2nd-degree manslaughter against Bates on April 13, 2015.

Sheriff Glanz said at the news conference he agrees with what the DA has done.

Glanz said he first met Bates about 25 years ago, when Glanz's son had a car wreck and needed insurance. He said Bates has completed training required to work as a reserve deputy and he has no knowledge of  Bates's training records being falsified.

The sheriff said many things have been said about his office that are untrue. Many of the allegations against him and his office are coming from people he's disciplined and even fired and are being used by a plaintiff's attorney who has sued him and his office many times, he said.

Glanz teared up when he discussed the priorities in his life, which he said are God and his family. He said he's received support from members of the community since the shooting who have told him he shouldn't resign and said he will stay on the job. He said he doesn't understand why people are questioning his integrity.

The two full-time deputies seen in the videotape of the incident have been reassigned for their own safety, Glanz said.

The sheriff said members of the Commission on Accreditation For Law Enforcement Agencies were in Tulsa recently to announce that his office meets national standards. Glanz questioned why the media didn't cover that announcement.
