Stacia Knight Weather Blog: Severe Weather Possible

Conditions are in place for the possibility of severe weather Saturday.

There were a few showers around Green Country this morning, but it wasn't really anything to write home about. Enjoy the early afternoon hours today because they will be quiet as we watch storms fire out in western Oklahoma and the Texas panhandle.

Those storms should organize and push through eastern Oklahoma tonight. It is common for storms to fire out ahead of already mature storms so as the initial severe storms move east, we'll be watching for some development ahead of the line.

Those early storms will be capable of becoming severe as the ingredients for severe weather are in place today. It's warm, humid; we have a surface boundary set to move through and the upper level support to get the job done.

Here's the thinking for the afternoon - a line of storms is expected to develop to our west and move through after dark. These storms will pose the most severe threat for us. Hail, wind and flooding will be problems along with the potential for tornadoes.

We could see up to baseball size hail and depending on the location, a few tornadoes could be relatively long lived.

The threat for flash flooding has also returned with these storms and a flash flood watch has been issued until tomorrow morning for much of the state. We should see conditions quiet down after 3 a.m. There could be a few storms Sunday afternoon especially southeast of Tulsa. A few could be strong to severe.

A cool front stalls to the northwest of Tulsa on Monday morning which could fire again a few showers and storms. With northeast winds behind the front we'll be cooler for Tuesday and Wednesday. Another storm system arrives Wednesday. The best chances of rain and storms are Wednesday but chances are in the forecast extending through Sunday of Memorial Day weekend.
