Architects Making Progress On Tulsa Botanic Garden

The Tulsa Botanic Garden is undergoing a multi-million dollar expansion.

President and CEO of the Botanic, Todd Lasseigne said the first two gardens should be ready for the public within a year.

That sounds like a long time, but when you consider most of what we have known about the Botanic Garden for the last decade was contained on conceptual drawings, it's no time at all.

"I think it may be one of the largest gardens under construction in the country now, it seems to be a lot larger in person now," said Tary Arterburn.

Thursday, most of the architects were busy working on the project, and they've been busy.

There's a seven-acre lake that's 80-feet deep at the far end. What the huge project will be is the $3.1 million AR and Marylouise Tandy Floral Terraces.

The Centerpiece of the garden is a concrete and stone waterfall.

"The water will cascade into these pools," Lasseigne said.

And eventually flow back into the lake.

There's still a lot for everyone to finish, but it's no longer just a concept anymore.

The floral terraces should open this fall and the Children's Discovery Garden, next spring.
