The Medical Examiner’s Office has identified a boy whose body was found after being swept away in the Cimarron River.

According to Kingfisher County Sheriff Dennis Banther, 6-year-old Afelix Harper was spending the 4th of July holiday with his family along the bank of the Cimarron River when he went under the water around 5 p.m. Saturday. He never resurfaced.

Crews with the Oklahoma Highway Patrol and Dover Fire Department assisted the Kingfisher County Sheriff’s Department with the search. OHP used its sonar technology, boats and divers to scour every inch of the water.

Sunday night, Sheriff Banther confirmed that Harper’s body has been recovered.

The ME's Office is performing an autopsy Monday morning.

A GoFundMe account has been set up to help with funeral costs.
