We The People: Supreme Court Ruling Is 'Win For Team Tulsa County'

The Oklahoma Supreme Court denied the sheriff's motion to stop the grand jury investigation of his office which is set to convene next week.

The way it stands right now, come Monday morning, 100 potential jurors will come to Judge Rebecca Nightingale's courtroom and fifteen will be selected - 12 jurors and three alternates.

Those Tulsa County residents will be charged with investigating the sheriff and his office, something Marq Lewis and We The People Oklahoma are looking forward to.

"This is a win for Team Tulsa County," Lewis said.

It's the second win for We The People Oklahoma and the second loss for Tulsa County Sheriff Stanley Glanz.

Thursday, the Oklahoma Supreme Court denied the sheriff's motion to stop a grand jury investigation of his office.

"Since all their fighting, we've had more people to say, 'Hey, I'd sign again. I'd sign again.' So I think what's happened is their resistance to this grand jury has created this movement of, 'What are they really hiding,'" said Lewis.

But Glanz could file a third motion at the district court level, or a "petition in error" with the state Supreme Court., but First Assistant to the District Attorney, John David Luton, thinks it's unlikely Glanz will fight a grand jury investigation further.

Luton explained how the process works, saying; Nightingale will convene a grand jury and Okmulgee County District Attorney Rob Barris will come to Tulsa County to assist the jurors in the investigation.

He said jurors can ask for any piece of evidence, and subpoena people to testify, which can take months.

Finally, when it's all over, jurors can take no action, remove Glanz from office or return an indictment.

"That would mean that they believe that there's sufficient action present to have criminal charges brought against someone," Luton said.

Lewis and "the underdogs," as they call themselves, said if nothing comes of the investigation, they at least did what they could.

"That's fine. If nothing comes, we've done our part," he said.

Glanz didn't comment Thursday but has said he's open to a grand jury investigation.
