A Sapulpa police officer was shot and killed in Midwest City Saturday night. SPD Lt. Trey Pritchard was one of two murder victims found at a motel in Midwest City, Chief Brandon Clabes confirms.

The suspected murderers are on the run, investigators say.

Clabes said Pritchard and his cousin Jeffrey Grafton, both 46 years old, were killed when they went to retrieve a stolen truck in a family matter. Police say Grafton's son Jonathan had stolen the truck from his father.

The victims tracked the truck to the Traveler's Inn at 6821 South 29th Street using the vehicle's GPS system. Police say at 10 p.m., a motel clerk reported an unresponsive person in the room, which had been rented earlier in the day by Jonathan.

Investigators believe Jeffrey Grafton went inside the motel room first to confront his son, but he never returned. That's when they believe Pritchard went inside to look into the situation and also was killed, Clabes said.

"It's a tragedy, is what it is," Clabes told News On 6.

"It’s sad when anybody loses their life, especially when it’s someone who we believe is a relative of one of the victims. And the fact that it’s an off-duty police officer most likely trying to help a relative recover a vehicle, and [he] loses his life over something like this."

The abandoned truck was located by GPS in Yukon on Sunday morning, Clabes said.

Arrest warrants have been issued for Jonathan Grafton, 22, and his girlfriend Daphne Mason, 21.

Jonathan Grafton was just released from jail on June 3, according to Creek County Sheriff's officials.

A history behind bars and an eerie trail of Facebook posts, some with references to drug use and one thing that stood out most of all.

“Murder is the only consistent answer to life’s problems” was posted as a status in March on Jonathan’s profile.

The flag outside the Sapulpa Police Department has been lowered to half-staff in Pritchard's memory.

Anyone with information about Jonathan Grafton or Mason's whereabouts is asked to call 911.
