No record lows this morning but some moderate to cool weather remains across eastern OK and western Arkansas.   Temperatures in the upper 50s and lower 60s will move into the lower 90s today along with a return of southeasterly surface winds around 10 mph.   We're still tracking a stout upper level system that will move across the central plains Friday and a weak surface boundary that will enter northern OK with a chance for a few storms.   The pattern supports warming temperatures across the southern plains, including Oklahoma next week.   We're not finished with summer yet friends.

Yesterday morning started with lows in the lower to mid-50s.   We set a new record low in the metro yesterday morning with a low of 56 surpassing the old record by one degree.   Mild and pleasant conditions will remain for the end of the week but a few showers or storms will be possible as the front nears the state.  There may be a few showers or storms today across the I-35 corridor region, mainly near the central to south-central part of the state.   A few storms should also be possible today across portions of central Kansas.   These storms should remain effectively away from our immediate areas.

The mid-level ridge remains west of the area today and the upper level disturbance is rotating along the periphery of the ridge this morning and will enter the plains states Thursday and Friday.   A surface low is developing now across southeastern Colorado and western Kansas with a weak surface boundary expected to form later today and tonight.   This boundary will slide slowly southward into northwestern OK by Thursday afternoon and evening where a few showers or storms may develop.   Friday morning into the afternoon the front is expected to become nearly parallel along the I-44 corridor region.   A few showers or storms may occur near the boundary Friday into pre-dawn Saturday but the chances appear rather low due to the lack of significant low level moisture.   The timing would possible bring a few storms into the northeastern OK region early Friday and then into southeastern or east-central OK Friday night into pre-dawn Saturday.   By Saturday morning the front may be in-between the I-40 area and the Red River Valley but will more than likely stall in this area for the rest of Saturday evening and early Sunday morning.   The result will be slightly cooler and drier air north and slightly warmer and moist air south.   Highs in Tulsa and northern OK should stay in the mid-80s Saturday with lower 90s south.   Sunday the front will quickly become diffuse and highs will return into the lower 90s with southeast winds returning to the area.   Next week the upper air pattern will support the ridge expanding for a few days allowing the 90s to populate most of eastern OK before a mid-level trough develops out of the South Texas region and advances northward under the ridge. This may bring some active weather into the state around the end of next week.

WARN Interactive Radar

We're also watching Tropical Storm Erika closely.   This Atlantic based system has the potential to become a hurricane and may approach  U.S. interests by early next week.

Thanks for reading the Wednesday morning weather discussion and blog.

Have a super great day!
