In the middle of jury selection, a Tulsa man decided to plead guilty to setting his girlfriend's house on fire and killing her 5-year-old son.

Now a judge will decide Steven Clement's sentence.

He heard emotional testimony from family members Monday. The judge heard about what happened from the mother, as well as the three children who survived.

It was very emotional for the mom, especially when she talked about having to watch her 5-year-old son die in the hospital.

Clements set the fire in September of last year. Prosecutors said he was watching his girlfriend’s four children when he became angry with their mom.

The mom told the court room, she was out of town working when Clement started texting her, saying he was going to light the house on fire with all the kids sleeping inside and asked if she had insurance.

Two of the children weren't badly injured, but the other two, an 11-year-old girl and 5-year-old boy were badly hurt; the 11 year old survived and testified Monday.

The children told the court they were asleep in their rooms and woke up to flames and smoke all around them.

Prosecutor Andrea Brown said, "Each of the children said he made no effort to notify them the house was on fire or to help get them out. Each of the surviving children made it out on their own, and I'm incredibly proud of them for that."

There are two sentencing options, either life or life without parole.

The judge will hear more testimony form investigators next month and then decide Clements sentence.
