An Oklahoma Eagle-Scout-to-be is teaching lessons in properly retiring Old Glory.

It's part of Boy Scout Quentin Perkins' Eagle Scout project.

He and the other scouts of Troop 627 installed a drop box at the American Legion in Fort Gibson.

When a flag becomes tattered and worn, the old flags can be dropped off, and scouts will later dispose of the flag in a respectful manner.

"It would be more convenient for them, and us, to drop off the flags and then we can retire them respectfully, because most people don't know what happens to tattered and worn out flags," Perkins said.

Former Senator Tom Coburn is working with the Boys Scouts to place flag disposal boxes across the country.
