A diesel fuel spill has caused problems for drivers headed north on the west leg of the IDL in downtown Tulsa.

The fire department reports the spill begins on Interstate 244 after it crosses over the Arkansas River and continues north to the Highway 412 exit for Sand Springs.

The Oklahoma Department of Transportation says eastbound I-244 traffic on the west leg of the Inner Dispersal Loop downtown is being routed to northbound US-75 on the south leg of the IDL because of the spill.

Police have received numerous reports of vehicles slipping and sliding on the highway.

Traffic is backing up on the highway as the Oklahoma Department of Transportation and the fire department work to clean up the spilled fuel.
