The Oologah High School marching band has been invited to perform at this year’s Sugar Bowl, which is one of the most historic college football games in the country.

The Stallion Battalion will join other elite marching bands from across the country to perform at the halftime show.

Under the direction of Jon Matthews, the Oologah High School marching band will travel to New Orleans, where they will rehearse with the mass band and learn from nationally acclaimed adjudicators.

“The Oologah band has traveled to Memphis, TN for the Liberty Bowl, San Antonio, TX for the Alamo Bowl, and San Diego, CA for the Holiday Bowl,” Matthews said. “We have also traveled to Chicago, IL for the Heritage festival in 2014. The band won the field show competition for the Alamo Bowl and marched pregame. In Chicago, the band won the ‘Spirit of Chicago’ award. We are excited to represent Oologah and the state of Oklahoma in New Orleans at the Sugar Bowl.”

The battalion will perform at Jackson Square as well as the Riverfront Gazebo, will take in a live performance at Preservation ride the Natchez Riverboat cruise and visit the National WWII museum.

Each of the 75 Oologah students must raise $900 to take the trip and the group has held many fundraisers to earn funds. If you’d like to make a contribution, you can email Matthews at  jon.matthews@oologah.k12.ok.us.
