We will have a good chance of showers and some thunder to start the day Friday followed by a brief cool-down.

Short on time this evening after spending much of the day out at the Tulsa State Fair.

Anyway, as mentioned yesterday, the drought monitor was updated this morning and the first graphic shows how drought continues to intensify and spread across the state, as was anticipated in yesterday’s discussion. The very warm temperatures again today, as seen on the max/min temperature map, are not helping matters either, as those warm temperatures contribute to increased evapotranspiration.

We do have a decent shot at showers and some thunder for the late night and morning hours of Friday as a cool front pushes across the state, but that is not expected to provide much relief. Notice the 2-day QPF map for example and what rain does fall will be mostly N of I-40, and even there, amounts should be on the light side. One quarter of an inch or so with some locally heavier amounts will be possible and those showers will be rapidly ending during the morning hours.

By afternoon our skies will be clearing, leaving us with fair skies for the evening hours and lots of sunshine going through the weekend. Brisk northerly winds will cool us off for Friday, but only back to near normal levels, with mid-70s generally expected. As you can see on the forecast page, this cool-down will be rather short-lived, with upper 70s by Saturday afternoon and well into the 80s, if not around 90, on Sunday afternoon.

Another weak front will arrive on Monday, followed by somewhat cooler conditions, but that will also only bring us back to near normal for a short time before we warm back up by the middle of the week. The Monday front will also be moisture-starved and we currently do not anticipate any mention of rain from that particular system.

The above normal temperatures as a general trend are also evident on the 8-14-day outlook graphics. Unfortunately, not much more than a near normal chance of scattered showers is expected during the time frame as well.

Oh well, we will get a good soaking rain one of these days; it just does not appear evident at this time from any of the long range products.

So, stay tuned and check back for updates.
