The Golden Hurricane broke its two-game losing streak with a 34-24 win over the University of Louisiana-Monroe.

Game Summary:

Redford Jones set the tone early with a 44-yard field goal to give Tulsa an early lead.

Zack Langer later kept things going when he closed out the 1st quarter with another Golden Hurricane score, advancing TU’s advantage 10-0.

Entering the 2nd, the Warhawks decided they weren’t going to let Tulsa run away with the game when ULM quarterback Garrett Smith ran it in to cut Tulsa’s lead 10-7.

After a couple of runs by D'Angelo Brewer and a pass to Keyarris Garrett TU landed at the ULM 42, but failed to make anything happen.

After holding ULM to seven, Jones upped TU’s lead by three more with a 28-yarder that earned him redemption for missing a previous attempt.

The Golden Hurricane offense didn’t slow down before intermission, snagging another score when Dane Evans connected with red-shirt freshman Justin Hobbs for a 36-yard TD. Before the game, Hobbs only had two catches on the season but stepped up to snatch three in two quarters.

Going into the half, Tulsa led 20-7 and was dominating the Warhawks in numbers. In the half, Tulsa tabbed 343 total yards compared to ULM’s 137.

Just minutes into the 3rd, ULM scored on a 22-yard field goal in an attempt to close the scoring gap.

The Warhawks didn’t stop there. Smith soon found Ajalen Holley for a 26-yard run into the end zone, cutting the deficit to just three.

Turning Point: Shortly after, a 43-yard run from DeVontae McNeal gave the Warhawks a four-point edge and the team its first lead of the game.

Now trailing 24-20, the Golden Hurricane needed to make adjustments going into the 4th. While ULM continued to capitalize off of each mistake, Tulsa’s defense was taking a beat-down and the offense was cold.

Tulsa got the break it needed when Matt Linscott caught an interception that resulted in a 15-yard touchdown from Brewer, helping TU reclaim the lead (27-24).

TU continued to make strides, adding more points to the board when Langer tallied another TD.

The Golden Hurricane kept it together in the final three minutes to finish with a ten-point win.
