Oklahoma State All-America candidate Emmanuel Ogbah is the AutoNation National Defensive Player of the Week as selected by the Football Writers Association of America and he is also the Lott IMPACT Player of the Week, it was announced today.

The junior defensive end from Houston scored a defensive touchdown, forced two fumbles, recovered a fumble and notched a sack, a tackle for loss and a quarterback hurry in the Cowboys’ overtime win over West Virginia in Morgantown. He also set a season high with eight tackles.

Ogbah’s fumble recovery in the end zone opened the scoring and the first fumble that he forced enabled the Cowboy offense to start a drive at the West Virginia 28 yard line. Just five plays later, the Pokes found the end zone.

Ogbah leads the Big 12 and ranks fourth nationally with 7.5 sacks. His 11.0 tackles for loss also leads the Big 12 and ranks fifth nationally. Additionally, he has nine quarterback hurries, which is already good for a single-season school record despite the fact that OSU has only played half of its regular season schedule.

In addition to earning AutoNation National Defensive Player of the Week accolades this week, Ogbah has also been a two-time selection as Big 12 Defensive Player of the Week. He has been instrumental in the Cowboys’ 6-0 start that includes a 3-0 record in Big 12 play and a 2-0

“You watch the games on Sundays and see the beating that NFL quarterbacks take and you wonder why in the world anyone would want to be an NFL quarterback these days. Well, Emmanuel Ogbah creates that for us,” said Oklahoma State coach Mike Gundy.

AutoNation will donate $1,000 to the Breast Cancer Research Foundation (BCRF) in Ogbah's name and the Pacific Club IMPACT Foundation, sponsors of the Lott IMPACT Trophy, with make a $1,000 donation to the general scholarship fund at Oklahoma State.

Ogbah and the Cowboys are off this week, but return to action when they host Kansas at 2:30 p.m. CT on Oct. 24 in Boone Pickens Stadium.
