There is an old joke that goes something like, "How do you get to Carnegie Hall?" "Practice, practice, practice."

Well, that’s exactly what a local home school choir group is doing to get ready for their trip to Carnegie Hall in April.

The Choir Company, a sixth-year home school choir program, may be singing Christmas music right now - the season is right around the corner - but they're also looking forward to the spring and something really exciting.

"We are going to Carnegie Hall in April," said Choir Director Lisa McGee.

McGee started back in 2009 with 11 kids; it's grown to 77, and she loves teaching them all.

"They are eager, they are so eager," she said.

Senior Madeline Brown loves it too.

"Just like a regular High School choir. We meet once a week and it's just an awesome experience," she said.

Awesome is also getting to sing at Carnegie Hall in New York City. They will be performing as part of the Choirs of America Program.

They auditioned earlier this year and are the first home school choir ever selected to perform at the event.

The trip costs each student about $1,800, so coming up with the money requires some imagination.

One member, Joseph Barnes, is putting on a one man show at the First Baptist Church in Skiatook on December 10 at 7 p.m., after which he will pass the hat and hope for the best.

We pulled the seniors out of the rehearsal and asked about the highlights - the concert, Statue of Liberty, Empire State Building, and a Broadway show, Wicked.

"I saw it a couple of years ago, then I memorized the sound track. I'll be the annoying person singing along with all the songs. I'll probably get kicked out, but it's gonna be awesome," one member said.

If you’d like to help them get there, you can find out more about the choir here.
