High Winds, Heavy Rain Threaten Eastern Oklahoma

A strong storm system pushing across the state line could bring high winds, heavy rains and possibly severe storms along with it.

News On 6 Meteorologist Dick Faurot said, while this time of year isn’t known for severe weather, the strength of the system is threatening.

“As the showers and storms move through, the strength of the winds at the surface and aloft will be more than enough to overcome that limitation, with damaging winds from storms the greatest threat.”

Faurot said some isolated spin-ups may occur as well.

Strong south/southeast winds are expected to push the line of storms east overnight and is expected to be in the Tulsa area between 6:00 and 8:00 Tuesday morning.

Chief Meteorologist Travis Meyer said strong winds in excess of 60 miles per hour are the biggest threat with this system, but there could be some localized rain with 1-2 inches possible for the Tulsa area and 2-4 inches for the more southeast counties.

Meyer said the system is expected to make its way out by 9:00 Tuesday morning.

The warmest temperatures are expected to be early morning, with the off and on showers. Then, Meyer said, once the storm moves out we’ll see a slight rebound with temperatures to be in the 60s.

For the rest of the week, expect temperatures to stay between mid-50s and upper 60s.
