An advocacy group is accusing Oklahoma City Public Schools of denying children in psychiatric treatment an appropriate education at an Oklahoma City-based facility.
The Oklahoman reports that the National Alliance on Mental Health Illness Oklahoma filed a complaint with the Oklahoma State Department of Education on Wednesday.
The complaint comes in response to the school district's decision to not renew a contract to provide education at the Positive Changes treatment facility.
The organization says it has received five reports of children at Positive Changes being denied education access. The organization says these practices discriminate against disabled students.
School officials have denied their actions were discriminatory and said the contract wasn't renewed because of the facility's inability to provide a safe educational environment.
