The Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation has been called in after a Mayes County police officer shot and killed a man Wednesday.

Mayes County Sheriff Mike Reed said the call went out as barricaded suspect in the community of Sportsman Acres, which is about four miles southeast of Pryor.

An officer was just about to go off duty when a woman ran into the department saying she needed help because her father had a gun and locked himself in the bedroom.

Reed said when the officer arrived, the man came out with a gun and fired at the officer and the officer fired back. The officer was not hit, but the man was.

The man was taken to a hospital where he later died.
