Muskogee police are searching for the person who they say robbed a pharmacy then carjacked a customer at gunpoint.

The woman said she tried to stay calm and keep herself and her 2-year-old son safe.

The victim was in the drive through at Ernie's Pharmacy just after 9:00 Wednesday morning when she saw the suspect run out of the store and try to get in other vehicles. She had no idea what would happen next.

“He pointed the gun at my window and said ‘You better not do it. If you do it I’m going to shoot ya,’” she said.

The woman said the man gave her a count of three to try and drive off or let him in.

She said, “I looked in the pharmacy window and looked at my 2 year old and said ‘OK’ and unlocked the door.”

Minutes earlier, surveillance video from inside Ernie’s Pharmacy shows the man approached the counter and made his way to the prescriptions.

Police said he got away with 30,000 pills and had a goal of getting away from police.

“I said ‘Whatever you do, please don’t hurt me and my baby,’” the woman said. “He said ‘I ain’t going to hurt you,’ and said ‘I’m sorry I put you in this situation.’”

She said, “He said ‘I had to do what I had to do. I'm doing bad and going through some things.’”

The woman drove him from the pharmacy to a nearby apartment complex.

“I thought if I kept the conversation going it would calm him. Seemed like he didn't want any distress, just wanted to get away from the place," she said.

The woman believes if the man wanted to hurt anyone he would've started with pharmacy staff and then her.

“There was good enough reason for him to shoot and kill me and my son then because everybody could identify him,” she said.

Looking back, the woman said God was on her side.

“Cause my son’s head was up far enough where that gun was aimed at my window. He had the gun right at the window and he would've gotten shot in the head if I didn't open it,” she said.

The woman said when they got where he wanted to go he got out of the car, wiped the door handle and told her to leave.

She took the same route back and passed police, so she stopped to tell them what happened and where she dropped him off.

If you have any information, you’re asked to call Muskogee police at 918-683-8000.
