University of Tulsa Head Coach Philip Montgomery has promoted one of his staff to fill a spot vacated when Texas Longhorns signed offensive line co-coordinators Sterlin Gilbert and Matt Mattox.

News On 6 had exclusive video when Texas Head Coach Charlie Strong, athletic director Mike Perrin and University President Greg Fenves made the trip to Tulsa to talk to the two coaches Friday night.

On Saturday, Montgomery confirmed that co-offensive coordinators Gilbert and Mattox are leaving the Golden Hurricane coaching staff to accept positions at Texas.

Montgomery promoted Mike Bloesch to fill one of the vacated positions.

“Mike is a rising star when it comes to coaching the offensive line. He played for us at the University of Houston, and really understands, as a player and coach, what we need to do from a schematic and offensive line standpoint in this offense,” Montgomery said in a news release.

Montgomery said the team is focused on its preparations for the Camping World Independence Bowl and the match up with Virginia Tech.

He said his other goal is continuing to recruit and rebuild the program to one that will win American Athletic Conference championships.

“We expect this to be a seamless transition over the next two weeks in preparing for the Independence Bowl and continuing forward," he said.
