A hot shooting Lyon College rallied to knock off the Oral Roberts women's basketball team, 68-49, Tuesday afternoon in non-conference action.
The Golden Eagles dropped their seventh straight as Lyon handed ORU its first loss to a non-NCAA Division I opponent since falling 74-70 to Evangel on January 8, 1996.
Lyon shot a season-best for an ORU opponent, 46.7 percent from the field as the Golden Eagles shot just 33 percent from the field. ORU was also just 2-of-12 from behind the three-point line.
All nine Golden Eagles scored in the loss as Kaylan Mayberry had a team-high nine points. Maria Martianez added four points and eight boards in the loss.
Lyon was led by a double-double from Jamie Jackson with 13 points and 12 rebounds. Taylor Gaedtke paced the Scots offensively with 14 points.
TURNING POINT
Lyon outscored ORU 20-8 in the second quarter to take a 28-23 lead at the break. The Scots held the lead and went on to outscore the Golden Eagles in the third and fourth quarters to finish with a 68-49 victory.
THE LEADERS
Oral Roberts: Kaylan Mayberry had a team-high nine points while Maria Martianez added four points and eight rebounds.
Lyon: Taylor Gaedtke finished with a game-high 14 points as teammate Jamie Jackson posted a double-double with 13 points and 12 boards.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
- ORU saw all nine players score in the game however it was the first time since 11/13/13 vs. Arkansas no player scored in double figures.
- The Golden Eagles out-rebounded Lyon 35-30 marking just the second time this season ORU has won the rebounding battle.
- ORU shot 2-of-12 (16.7%) from behind the three-point line as they fell below 20 percent for the first time since shooting 12 percent against South Dakota on Jan. 8, 2015.
- The all-time series between ORU and Lyon is now tied at 1-1.
