Rain should be developing over Tulsa and the surrounding area Tuesday evening with a winter weather advisory in effect for far northeast Oklahoma.

The rain will last until about midnight, with counties along the Arkansas and Missouri borders experiencing a light wintry mix.

A very light layer of icing could happen on elevated surfaces from around Sallisaw north to Grove. A few snowflakes may fall north of Tulsa Tuesday night, but no accumulation is expected. A travel advisory is in effect until 6 a.m. Wednesday for Sequoyah, Adair, Cherokee, Mayes, Craig, Ottawa and Delaware counties.

The advisory also extends into northwest Arkansas, southwest Missouri and southeast Kansas. Ice and snow snarled traffic in the Kansas City area late Tuesday afternoon.

Tuesday night the Montgomery County Sheriff Office issued a warning to drivers urging them to avoid unnecessary travel. Deputies said the roads look wet but are actually very icy.

The weather also impacted some schools. Sedan Public Schools will open three hours late at 11 a.m. Wednesday, both Cedar Vale Public Schools and Elk Valley will open two hours late and Oaks Mission Public Schools will be closed.

You can keep up with all the schools closings here.

Another system on Thursday will bring a mix of rain and snow to the area. It could bring a dusting to parts of northeast Oklahoma but shouldn't be a major inconvenience.
