Former Tulsa and Washington Redskins quarterback Steve Gage likes to close the deal, and if it's a big deal he shows off the bling.

"I don't wear if often but sometimes in client meeting[s] I'll have it on,” he said. “It's a fun conversation piece.”

Gage is talking about his Super Bowl Ring. He was a member of the 1988 Redskins as a backup safety in Super Bowl XXII, in a year known for the players strike.

"We had our challenges but made it through the playoffs, so it was an exciting time," he stated.

And Doug Williams, a former Oklahoma Outlaw in the USFL, became the first African-American quarterback to win a Super Bowl.

"He had an outstanding year that year and it was great to be a part of history, and you knew it was special, but looking back it was even more special than I realized," Gage explained.

Before winning the ring in San Diego, Gage was a QB at TU.

"We ran the veer offense. I took a lot of hits; [I] was used to contact," he added.

But a switch in position came in a unique way after a Chicago Bears scout came over to meet with him.

"I threw an interception and he came over and said, ‘You should play defense. You made such a good tackle after that interception,’" he explained.

But he got drafted by the Redskins and the rest is history. Now, Gage is President of MidCon Supply in Downtown Tulsa.

He says lessons from the football field are helping him in the business of life.

"A lot of those challenges you go through playing football can certainly, if you learn from them, help you stay determined in whatever you do after football," he said.

And maybe he'll use that to close more deals with flashy jewelry to boot.
