Two Tulsa police officers - one just out of the academy - were honored for an act of bravery. The officers rescued a woman from a house fire last month.

Officer Jimmy Jones and Officer-In-Training Daniel Cartwright were patrolling near 11th and Lewis early January 9 when they discovered the house fire. Fire crews told News On 6 the officers pulled a woman from the home and called the fire in.

On Wednesday, Councilor Karen Gilbert honored the two men for their actions.

Cartwright is an officer in training, according to Sergeant Shane Tuell, Tulsa Police Department public information officer. Jones was the field training officer for Cartwright.

For several weeks after new officers graduate from the academy, they are paired with a training officer at each division before being released for full duty.
