An Oklahoma Department of Transportation contractor recently completed a resurfacing project on U.S. Highway 412 where it merges with Catoosa. But there already are numerous potholes in the top layer of asphalt.

As you drive along the interchange heading toward Tulsa, you can see the new asphalt. But what doesn't seem to make sense is crumbling holes in the recently re-finished surface.

And it's something drivers have noticed.

“Oh, yeah, I've noticed it,” Rob Bethany said. “It just looks like the top layer of the asphalt has come off of it."

Bethany commutes to Glenpool and says the road always has some problems.

“It's actually better than it was even now, but I can tell it's not staying,” Bethany said.

ODOT says they have been notified and are working with the contractor to fix the problem.

They don't know yet if the holes were caused by weather or a bad mix of asphalt.

This stretch of road is part of a $5.2 million resurfacing project that also includes the Broken Arrow Expressway near the inner-dispersal loop currently under construction on weekends, and on U.S. Highway 169.

ODOT says the contractor is planning on patching what they can temporarily, but a permanent fix won't come until temperatures warm up in the spring.

Maggie Record has a rental car company and says while setbacks like this are frustrating, she thinks that overall, Oklahoma roads aren't so bad.

“I think that Oklahoma does a decent job with their roads, I do,” Maggie Record said.

But who pays for this kind of repair?

“Well, I hate to see money wasted."

ODOT says the contractor will be making the fix, with no additional cost to the taxpayer, which is good news to drivers.
