A Fairland teenager was transported to a hospital on Friday after crashing his motorcycle near Miami, the Oklahoma Highway Patrol says.

The crash took place at 4:19 p.m. near Miami on U.S. Highway 59 in Ottawa County.

According to the collision report, the 17-year-old driver was southbound on highway 59 when witnesses said his bike was standing up doing a wheelie for approximately a half mile.

Another witness reportedly said when the teen put the motorcycle back on the roadway, the back wheel was wobbling.

OHP said the driver lost control of the bike, ran off the west side of the roadway, traveled approximately 201 feet, struck a ditch, went airborne for approximately 81 feet, impacted the ground, lost control, traveled approximately 141 feet and came to rest in the brush. The driver was thrown from the motorcycle prior to coming to rest in the brush, OHP says.

The teen’s name is withheld in the report because of his age. He was transported to a Joplin hospital in good condition, the report says.

The investigating trooper said the cause of the collision was inattention, and the teen's condition at the time of the crash was apparently normal.
