Ada Boy Recovers After Being Mauled By Dogs

A 5-year-old boy from Ada was mauled by dogs so badly he had to be airlifted to the hospital.

Like any little boy, Jacoby Bennett loves to go outside, but late last week a trip outside sent him to the hospital where he is fighting to recover.

"He stung me!" Jacoby said in a home video.

He is all boy, and that probably was not the first time something "stung" his curious little fingers.

"He's just real into nature,” his dad Jeremy Bennett said.

However, the most recent time he came face to face with an animal it nearly took his life.

"He's been battered and bruised from head to toe. Puncture wounds. Just bite marks all over him. The unfortunate part is the dogs took his ears. So he has no ears now,” Bennett said.

It’s an attack Jacoby's family  does not want to talk about,  but they've got plenty to share about the little outdoors man with a passion for nature that's just as vibrant as his red hair.

"His favorite thing to do is hunt and fish with me, his uncle and his grandpa,” Bennett said.

Now, at the Children's Center at OU Medical Center, Jacoby was just released from ICU. His mother hasn't left his side as he struggles to comprehend what happened and what he's lost.

"He's just coming to terms with that,” Bennett said. “He's pretty psychologically traumatized."

Doctors don't believe there is any brain damage, and while Jacoby can hear, they're not sure if he'll always be able to.

"He told us he loved us,” Bennett said. "Hug your children, because you don't know if you're going to have them from one minute to the next."
