A cold front is sweeping across northern and eastern OK this morning with some showers and storms exiting the area.   These storms developed last night and will continue to exit the area early this morning.   A few severe storms were detected overnight with nickel hail the main item of concern.  Strong northwest winds will develop this morning for a few hours before the pressure gradient begins to relax later this afternoon.   Temperatures will drop into the 40s behind the boundary this morning but should rebound into the mid-50s later this afternoon along with mostly sunny conditions.   A fast moving short-wave will arrive Thursday morning across northeastern OK with a few showers.   A stronger system is likely sometime early next week with additional thunderstorm chances for the state.

WARN Interactive Radar

Our storm system will quickly be exiting the area this morning.   By the time most folks read this post, showers and storms will be moving into Arkansas with dry air moving into the state of Oklahoma.   Strong north to northwest winds from 20 to 35 mph will be likely between now and 1pm before wind speeds drop into the 10 to 25 mph range.   A short-term wind advisory may eventually be posted for part of northeastern OK this morning.  As of this posting, none are in effect.

Temperatures today will be in the 50s with plenty of sunshine.

As the next upper level wave quickly drops down the central plains, our pressure will drop Tuesday night into Wednesday morning allowing a rapid return of southerly surface winds Wednesday.   These strong to gusty south winds will attempt to bring low level moisture back into the area by Thursday morning.  But the latest model data suggest only some dews in the 40s reaching northeastern OK.   This will still be enough moisture to produce a few showers but the coverage will remain low.   We’ll keep only a 10% chance of showers or storms for a few hours Thursday morning.    Clouds may linger for most of the day with highs in the upper 50s or lower 60s along with northeast winds at 10 to 20 mph.

Friday may be a five-star weather day with lows in the 40s and highs in the lower to mid-60s along with south winds near 10 to 15 mph.

This weekend temperatures will be mild with lows in the 40s and 50s and highs in the upper 60s near 70.   The data continue to point toward gusty south winds developing Sunday with increasing clouds and low level moisture.   As this process continues a few spotty showers will be possible Sunday.   EURO data is different for Sunday, but I’ll not go into all the details at this hour.   The EURO would bring northeast winds Saturday afternoon and cooler air (50s) for Sunday’s highs.   We’ll give the data a few more runs before making any drastic changes.

Our next major upper level system will be nearing the state early next week with south winds, mild temperatures, and increasing storm chances by Tuesday and Wednesday.

Thanks for reading the Wednesday morning weather discussion and blog.

Have a super great day!
