Home renovation is even more popular than ever -- with home and garden shows encouraging homeowners to update.

Home remodeling experts at the Tulsa Home and Garden Show say they've seen more people in the Tulsa area become interested in the topic over the last few years.

Fixtures, windows, flooring and more.

The show draws in home renovators and remodelers from all over the area.

“We are seeing more people feeling comfortable with their home values where they feel like they can put money back into the home, update it and make it real nice,” Barry Helms said.

Helms is the president of the Bixby-based remodel and design company  Renovations by Helms.

He's also a member of the Remodelers Council -- a group of builders renovators and other contractors that can give professional advice to those looking to do a home makeover.

“You can get in trouble if you're not a professional and you don't do that,” Helms said. “So that's where you want to look for somebody that is a member of the Remodelers Council."

Helms says the home and garden show is a great resource for homeowners to see what's out there, who can help and to compare services.

“We even tell some of our customers to come out to the show,” he said.

And no matter what question a homeowner may have, they have everything here under one roof.

“From the landscaping on the outside of your house all the way to new kitchen cabinets, bathroom fixtures,” he said.

Helms says he's seen a lot in his more than 30 years in the industry, from amazing transformations to do-it-yourself projects gone wrong.

Ultimately, he encourages homeowners to hire professionals, but if you want to do it yourself…

“Maybe don't tackle more than you can finish yourself,” he said.
