Former Tulsa County sheriff candidate John Fitzpatrick has been suspended as a Tulsa Police reserve officer pending an investigation, after he used his personal vehicle to follow a suspect over the weekend.

Fitzpatrick, who lists his occupation as businessman, tells us he did nothing wrong and expects to be cleared.

He says he saw a man driving and smoking pot so he called in and requested an officer. He says he followed the speeding suspect from 71st and Yale to the Creek Turnpike then back to 101st, relaying the suspect's location to police dispatch as he went. He says he ran out of gas after 40 minutes,

Fitzpatrick received 15 percent of the votes and finished third in the Republican primary for sheriff on March 1, 2016.
