A Tulsa man has started a new company with one goal - using new technology to help kids with disabilities.

He’s working on a prototype for something called a Sit 'n Scoot that’s being developed by Magpie Products - a small startup with one purpose, enabling and assisting persons with disabilities to achieve their goals.

John Henshaw is the chairman of the Mechanical Engineering department at the University of Tulsa; Magpie is his company.

The Sit 'n Scoot combines elements of a carry-on bag with a wheelchair to provide the littlest kids who need greater mobility.

Another product they're working on is a light-weight climbing thing they call Honey Comb Hollows.

"Each cell can be customized for a different sensory experience," Henshaw explained.

For 25 years, TU engineering students have created senior projects that help special needs kids.

What Magpie hopes to do is take some of those ideas, and using computer generated manufacturing processes available now, help them reach more people affordably.

If you are an entrepreneur with a new idea for the next gadget or product that will change the marketplace, the startup series begins next week. You can find more information here.
