Firefighters rescued a man whose boat capsized on Oologah Lake on Friday morning.

The Oklahoma Highway Patrol says the Rogers County Sheriff's Office got the call at about 8:25 a.m. about a man in the water wearing a personal floatation device in the Allen's Point area of the lake northeast of Talala.

The Northwest Rogers County Fire Protection District and OTEMS paramedics responded and launched a rescue boat, safely pulling the 53-year-old victim from the water.

“It was good coordination by the command system and a great use of available resources,” Northwest Rogers County Fire Chief Mat Shockley said.

The victim -- Christopher J. Dupuy, of Ramona --  officials said he was wet and cold and was taken to an Owasso hospital in good condition, OTEMS Paramedics Operations Director Kelly Deal said.

An Oklahoma Highway Patrol report says Dupuy's boat had mechanical issues. When it sank, Dupuy went into the water, but was able to secure a personal flotation device and call 911.

“This incident also shows how important the use of personal flotation devices is whenever anyone on the water,” said Bobby Parkey, Oologah Lake Project Manager for the Corps.
