In downtown Tulsa, old buildings are being turned into apartments and shops on what seems like every corner.

One of the more historically significant is a space built in 1929 that used to house Public Service of Oklahoma.  In a few months, the TransOk building will be ready for use once again and its owner gave a sneak peak only to News On 6.

"We are reconditioning it and repurposing it for the next century," said Stuart Price.

Managing owner Stuart Price pointed out many of the buildings architectural features that might be easily overlooked. For example, torch shaped light fixtures will glow at night.  After all, they wanted to showcase PSO's product - which, of course, was electricity.

The building is a strong one - reinforced concrete with a steel structure frame.

"Bedford, Indiana limestone is same on Empire State Building and base of Statue Of Liberty," said Stuart Price.

But I wanted inside, to see exactly what Kanbar Properties is doing.  Price wouldn't give away many secrets for the camera, but this historic building will soon be 37 new apartments - studio to two-bedrooms starting at $700 a month.

"I think people are catching on and people love this area of downtown and 30,000 people come downtown and work two blocks away," said Stuart Price.

The apartments overlook the park  and with hundreds of other apartments set to open here in the next several months - this part of downtown will be seeing a lot more activity.

"We are going to have programming and concerts and yoga on weekends and evenings a vibrancy unlike before," said said Stuart Price.

As for the ground floor of the TransOK building, Price tells me they are in talks with a high end restaurant group.
