A woman suffered smoke inhalation after she ran into her burning house several times to save her pets.

"I don't know if you've ever been there or not, but I don't know what to do and I don't know what to say," stated the woman's husband Terry Denton.

Firefighters found her clinging to one of her cats when they arrived at the scene, in the 2200 block of North Beverley. She was able to save that cat and three of her dogs.

Two dogs died in the fire. Batallion Chief DJ Keizor says she's lucky to be alive.

"It's hard to tell people. I mean, they're like family to them. But, you know, we can replace pets," said Keizor. "But she was very lucky today. That's the bottom line of it."

Denton got a call from a neighbor that their house was on fire.

Keizor is investigating what caused the fire. It looks like it started at the front of the home, and quickly spread to the attic.

The house is a total loss, but Denton is thankful the loss of life wasn't greater.

"God will take care of us. It's all that matters," he said. "She's alive. Everything is okay. Material things you can replace but people you can't. I'm just thankful that she's alive."
