The National Transportation Safety Board says the pilot who made an emergency landing on a Bixby road last month had to dodge a car.

No one was hurt when the single-engine Cessna 150 landed on Memorial Drive near 121st Street at about 3:15 on the afternoon of April 21, 2016.

According to the NTSB, the pilot was rated as an airline transport pilot. He told the NTSB the airplane had been purchased in Rolla, Missouri and that's where he flight originated.

The fuel tanks were topped off in Rolla, the pilot told the NTSB, and the plane was on final approach to Jones Riverside Airport when the engine quit.

The pilot got the engine restarted but it quit again so he restarted it, he told the NTSB. The investigator said when it quit a third time he declared an emergency and prepared to land on the road.

During the landing, a car pulled out onto the road so he had to pull up then quickly descend to avoid power lines. He missed the car and the power lines, but the left wing struck a road sign which spun the plane around, the NTSB said. It came to rest in the road.

Witnesses and first responders pushed the plane off the road into some grass near the QuikTrip.

The NTSB said the Federal Aviation Administration inspector reported that although the airplane's wings had been removed and the fuel tanks drained prior to his arrival, there was "enough fuel" available.

The NTSB said it took custody of the airplane for further examination.

The NTSB usually issues three reports on a crash; Preliminary, Factual and Probable Cause in that order. It's common for a few months to elapse between the Preliminary and Factual Reports on a given incident.
