Happy Mother’s Day! The warm weather continues as we celebrate all the moms in our lives today, but you may have to dodge a few showers and storms if you have any outdoor plans.

Some widely scattered showers are expected to develop across eastern Oklahoma later this morning, with the best chance of showers from late morning through early to mid-afternoon. A few embedded storms with some lightning will be possible as well, so be aware in case you have any outdoor activities planned. Some sunshine to start the day will give way to partly to mostly cloudy skies later this afternoon along with gusty south winds and afternoon highs in the upper 70s to low 80s.

Severe weather will be a concern mainly across western Oklahoma into parts of central Oklahoma later this afternoon into this evening. Most storms should be on a downward trend or fizzling out before reaching eastern Oklahoma, but we can’t totally rule out the chance that one or two strong to severe storms may linger into eastern Oklahoma this evening into tonight.

Another round of slightly more widespread showers and storms is expected to move out of north Texas and into parts of eastern and southeastern Oklahoma late tonight into Monday morning. Fortunately, the severe risk should remain low in the morning hours of Monday with this activity. As these showers and storms move east, clearing skies west of Tulsa will set the stage for the next chance of severe weather for eastern Oklahoma as a dryline approaches.

Severe storms are expected to develop by late afternoon Monday near the I-35 corridor, moving into eastern Oklahoma by early Monday evening. All modes of severe weather will be possible, including large hail, damaging winds, and even some tornadoes. Don’t be scared, just be prepared!

Most of the severe activity should be moving east of Green Country late Monday night with calmer weather by Tuesday. If things line up just right, we may be in for our warmest day of the year so far on Tuesday with upper 80s possible! The weather pattern is expected to remain active with more chances for storms by Wednesday and again by next weekend – it is May, after all!
