Westbrook was named to the All-NBA First Team for the first time in his career after receiving 120 First Team votes (627 total points). During the 2015-16 season, Westbrook appeared in 80 games and averaged 25.5 points (eighth in the NBA), 10.4 assists (second in the NBA), 7.8 rebounds and 2.04 steals (fifth in the NBA) in 34.4 minutes to become just the second player in NBA history (Oscar Robertson) to average at least 23 points, 10 assists and seven rebounds for a single season. Westbrook has also received All-NBA Second Team honors four times previously in his career.

Westbrook recorded 18 triple-doubles this past year, equaling the most in the NBA since Magic Johnson accomplished the feat during the 1981-82 season. Westbrook also notched seven triple-doubles in March, the most by an NBA player in a calendar month since Michael Jordan in April of 1989.

Durant was named to the All-NBA Second Team after receiving 36 First Team votes and 90 Second Team votes (452 total points). With regular season averages of 28.2 points (third in the NBA), 8.2 rebounds and 5.0 assists, Durant became the first player since Michael Jordan (1988-89 season) to average 28 points, 8 rebounds and 5 assists.

To close the regular season, Durant scored 20+ points in the final 64 games of the year. The 64 consecutive games with 20 or more represents the most since Jordan scored 20+ in 69 straight games during the 1990-91 season. Prior to last season, Durant was named to the All-NBA First Team for five straight years.

The All-NBA Teams were chosen by a panel of sportswriters and broadcasters in the United States and Canada. The media voted for All-NBA First, Second and Third Teams by position with points awarded on a 5-3-1 basis. Voters were asked to select two guards, two forwards and one center for each team, choosing players at the position they play regularly. Players who received votes at multiple positions were slotted at the position where they received the most votes.

Cavaliers' forward LeBron James joins Westbrook on the first team along with Spurs' forward Kawhi Leonard, Warriors' point guard Stephen Curry and Clippers center DeAndre Jordan.

Durant and Golden State's Draymond Green make up the forward slots on the second team while Sacramento's DeMarcus Cousins holds down the center position. Clippers' point guard Chris Paul and Trailblazers point guard Damian Lillard make up the rest of the second team.
