The Transportation Security Administration says it will continue to accept an Oklahoma driver's license as an approved form of identification for domestic flights.

Oklahoma lawmakers failed to pass a bill this year that would've put the state in compliance with the federal Real ID act.  That act requires states to improve their ID systems and the deadline to comply is January 22, 2018.

REAL ID Act

U.S. Department of Homeland Security says Oklahoma could get an extension through October 1, 2020.

State legislators say they haven't complied with the act fully because of what they call federal overreach and privacy concerns.

If the state doesn't comply with the Real ID act eventually, airline passengers could be forced to show alternative identification, like a passport, in order to board a domestic flight.
