Tulsa County sheriff's deputies will be a little safer thanks to a gift from the Cherokee Nation.

Tribal council member Buel Anglen gave Sheriff Vic Regalado a $5,000 donation Tuesday.

Anglen said many Cherokees live in Tulsa County, and it's important to make sure local law enforcement can help them.

"They're on the front lines. And we want to make sure they are equipped with what they need to protect us as citizens, and to protect Cherokee Nation citizens too," Anglen said.

The sheriff's office will use the money to replace outdated protective vests.

The Cherokee Nation said it hopes to continue to make these kinds of donations to the sheriff's office in the future.
