Heat advisories will remain for the next few days across part of Oklahoma with temperature heat index values climbing into the 105 to 112 range.   These projections may continue through the end of the week before some minor changes occur in the atmosphere that may allow for slightly cooler and slightly drier air to arrive across eastern OK.   A few showers or storms will remain possible but the chance will remain low.

Weather Alerts

We saw a few storms yesterday afternoon and evening to our north and west, but most of the area missed out on the precip as a warm layer of air aloft capped the atmosphere.   A few storms will attempt to form this morning across southern OK with a weak upper level wave near the area.   Later this afternoon, a few isolated storms will be possible with the daytime heating process.   Then late this evening, storms in Kansas may develop and slide southward.   But the layer of warm air aloft may be too strong for any of the above mentioned chances to materialize.  I will keep a slight mention in the forecast, just in case a weakness in the CAP is present.

The main focus for the next few days will be a building ridge of high pressure in the atmosphere across the southern plains.   The center of this ridge will remain west of the immediate area but the strength will keep any significant weather features (fronts and upper disturbances) out of the area.   The temperatures at 5k ft. continue to warm in the data.  The low level moisture, while probably overcooked with dew point temperatures unrealistically high, will continue to promote stifling heat indices for the next few days.   The morning lows may also be in jeopardy of not dropping very much below 80.    Not only will heat advisories be posted but the metro region may also be very close to heat warnings for the end of the week.

WARN Interactive Radar

his weekend the ridge will shift slowly west.  The eastern periphery of the ridge may allow for a few storms this weekend to develop across far eastern OK and western Arkansas but this chance will remain isolated at best.   Daytime highs should drop a few degrees as the thermal ridge ( 850 temps) should ease.   Morning lows in the lower 70s will be followed by highs around 92 to 94 Sunday into early next week.   But temperatures for the next few days will be characterized by lows in the upper 70s and highs in the upper 90s.   Remain hydrated with plenty of water for the next few days.

Thanks for reading the Wednesday morning weather discussion and blog.

Have a great day.
