The Oklahoma Department of Transportation is trying a new approach to reach drivers on the state's highways.

In March, ODOT began using its message boards around Tulsa to deliver real-time traffic updates. But now, it's also delivering advice.

This week, the message was "All ya'll need to slow down," which became a hit on Reddit when someone posted a photo of a message board. Last week the message was, "Accidents? Ain’t nobody got time for that."

ODOT says it's been posting “Work Zone Wednesday” messages every Wednesday since April, mixing work zone stats with safety messages, sometimes with a little humor.

Initially the messages were just going to be part of the department's two-month safety campaign but due to the positive response ODOT is extending them indefinitely.
