42-Year-Old Man Drowns In Lake Tenkiller

A 42-year-old Stilwell man drowned in Lake Tenkiller on Saturday afternoon, the Oklahoma Highway Patrol reports.

According to OHP, Benjamin Floyd Chambers was at Carters Landing, swimming and holding onto rocks in approximately 20 feet of water, and for an unknown reason, went under and did not resurface.

The Keys Fire Department and Cherokee Nation EMS responded to the scene. 

Chambers was under water approximately 1 hour and 41 minutes before being recovered by Cookson Fire Department divers.

According to the trooper's report, Chambers had an odor of alcohol and was not wearing a personal floatation device.
