Appeal Overturned; Steven Wade Jameson Back In Custody

A man who was convicted in a deadly 2009 crash that killed three members of a Sand Springs family turned himself in on Wednesday. Those convictions were reversed months ago, but a higher court ruled this week he needs to return to prison.

Steven Wade Jameson appeared before Judge James Caputo to turn himself in. Caputo is the same judge who, in January, vacated Jameson's manslaughter convictions and freed him.

Caputo did that after Jameson's attorneys argued he got bad legal advice during the trial and the sentencing guidelines weren't correct. Then just days ago, prosecutors won their appeal in the Oklahoma criminal appeals court, reversing Caputo's ruling.

In the original case, Jameson pleaded guilty in the crash in 2009 that killed Angela, Michael and James Mulanax. Steven Wade Jameson has been out of jail since January and wearing an ankle monitor.

Prosecutors say Wade Jameson did not have a valid license and had marijuana in his system the night of the crash.

"We have endured the most horrendous pain a parent can suffer," relative Linda Perkins said.

Jameson's attorney says Jameson was wrongly convicted.

"This was an excessive sentence by an overzealous prosecutor who was running for office and it sickens us," attorney Clark Brewster said.

The DA says that's not true and Jameson had a top-notch lawyer then, pleaded guilty and knew what punishment was on the line.

"There is no doubt, no question, three people are dead solely at the hands of Mr. Jameson," Tulsa County DA Steve Kunzweiler said.

The sole survivor of the Mulanax family has parted ways with her family and joined forces with Jameson and his family, even referring to Jameson as her brother.

"I want my brother to come back home, that's what I want," said Amanda Mulanax, who was 15 at the time of the crash.

Her family says she would have a real brother had Jameson not killed him.

The Mulanax family says they want this case to finally be over and justice to be served.

Brewster plans to appeal.
